DOOJ musician, writer, artist (1961 - 2017)

John's Original Wife was a project that happened in 2010. I had some songs that felt like they should be played live. So I needed a band and among them was Dooj ,a guitarist I knew. The project only amounted to one gig but it produced some good material. presented here. The band took the songs beyond what I'd brought along.
It was the last time Dooj and I worked together before I heard he was suffering from a mystery ailment, a form of dementia that also gradually paralysed his body. It got so bad that he spent his final years in a nursing home (the only resident with a huge Aladdin Sane poster on the wall).
Life was not kind to a guy who was not only a talented musician but also a courageous human being. He knew himself and even when his pink hair and mascara led to a vicious assault which left him in hospital for months, he just carried on being Dooj, those dismal morons could not dim his light.
That was left to the disease which now has claimed him, no better proof of life's unfairness could there be than what happened to this kind, gentle and brave man. As a musician, listen to his playing in particular on "Full Sore"  to see what we've lost, someone very special indeed. These recordings represent a snapshot of a moment in time and by no means demonstrate a complete picture of his artistry. Hopefully tthough they will remain as reminder of the unique and beautiful Dooj, taken from us when he had so much left to give.

At his family's request, all proceeds are to be given as donations to the Alzheimer's Society

And finally, the only known footage of the group at their one and only gig in June 2010
